Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC 2022), is just over a week away. That’s the company’s annual software strategy conference. Included in this is Apple’s upcoming iOS 16. In his most recent column for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman discussed a few insights and made some predictions pertaining to things Apple.

One of the topics he discussed was how the tech firm is prepared to introduce a few substantial enhancements in the next versions of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. Gurman has made a list of some possible upgrades, such as notifications, the ability to do more than one thing at once on the iPad, Messages, Health, and the lock screen.

Apple plans “major upgrades” for the latter, including wallpapers with “widget-like features”. According to Gurman, iOS 16 will also have an always-on lock screen. This capability is limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. The always-on function will leverage the iPhone 14 Pro’s LTPO screen, which reduces the frame rate to save battery life.

Assuming the always-on option makes it to the final cut, he says it will be available only on Apple’s upcoming high-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models (codenamed D73 and D74). Apple already offers 120Hz panel on the iPhone 13 Pro, although the refresh rate ranges between 10Hz and 120Hz, unlike the Apple Watch, which can also alter the refresh rate once every minute. It would be a fantastic addition to the iPhone 14 Pro series, which is slated to have a new hole-punch and pill cutout to replace the notch when it’s redesigned. The rumored iPhone 14 Pro is also likely to have an A16 Bionic chip and a 48-megapixel camera on the back, according to Gurman.

Gurman has a great track record of predicting Apple’s new features, but nothing has been confirmed. If true, it would be interesting to see how Apple implements these capabilities.
