For a long time, Samsung Electronics’ Device Solution (DS) Division has been manufacturing Exynos chipsets for smartphones. These chipsets are not only made for Samsung, but also for other OEMs. However, it appears that Samsung intends to build certain proprietary chips for flagship Galaxy devices in 2025.

As per the latest report from Business Korea, Samsung has begun developing application processor (AP) for Galaxy devices, which it is looking to finish the design in 2023, but the devices are expected only in 2025. This move comes after the Galaxy S22 series caught in a debate over the game optimization service (GOS).

According to reports, the decision was made in reaction to a growing sense of crisis within Samsung’s DS and MX business (Mobile Experience) departments, with increased support for the development of a specialized AP with high performance and low battery consumption.

Until now, the company’s processors have been insufficient to compete with market leaders such as Apple and Qualcomm. This is a red flag for Samsung’s smartphone business, as they are focusing more on Flagships and Foldables than ever before, which will require a good SoC to compete with other manufacturers.
